You can know that something is over and still feel like your body hasn't gotten the message. Maybe you're easily startled. Maybe conflict makes your heart race. Maybe you shut down when conversations become tense, struggle to relax, or find yourself reacting strongly to situations that seem small on the surface. You might even ask yourself: “Why am I still reacting this way?” For many people, trauma doesn't simply disappear when the difficult experience ends. It can continue

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, a time dedicated to increasing awareness, reducing stigma, and reminding people that support is available, even in moments that feel impossibly heavy. At Lighthouse Therapy & Consulting, we believe mental health conversations should not only happen when someone reaches a crisis point. Creating spaces where people feel safe enough to say, “I’m struggling,” “I don’t feel like myself,” or even “I don’t want to be here anymore” can

The beginning of a new school year can bring a lot of excitement. New teachers, new classrooms, new routines, new friends, and new opportunities can make back-to-school season feel like a fresh start. But for many children and adolescents, this transition can also bring stress, anxiety, overwhelm, and uncertainty. Even when a child is excited to return to school, adjusting from the flexibility of summer to early mornings, academic expectations, social pressures, extracurricul

Starting therapy can feel like a big step. For many people, the idea of talking about personal experiences, emotions, relationships, or stressors can feel intimidating. When people think about therapy, they often picture sitting one-on-one with a therapist. While individual therapy can be incredibly helpful, group therapy offers a unique kind of support that many clients find meaningful, encouraging, and healing. Group therapy creates a space where people with shared experien

Summer is often portrayed as a season of relaxation, vacations, outdoor activities, and joyful memories. Social media fills with beach trips, family gatherings, and people seemingly making the most of every sunny day. While summer can be an enjoyable season, it does not automatically feel restful or exciting for everyone. For some people, summer brings increased stress, disrupted routines, financial pressure, loneliness, body image concerns, or the expectation to feel happier

Mother’s Day is often portrayed as a time of celebration, gratitude, flowers, and joyful connection. For many, it can absolutely be a meaningful day filled with love and appreciation. But for others, Mother’s Day may stir a much more complex emotional experience, one that is often overlooked. The truth is, Mother’s Day can bring a wide range of emotions, including joy, grief, sadness, guilt, longing, overwhelm, resentment, or even emotional numbness. And every one of those fe

There’s something about spring that brings change to the surface. The days get longer. The air shifts. Everything around us begins to bloom, and naturally, we start to reflect on what in our own lives is growing and what no longer fits. But growth isn’t always light and exciting. Sometimes, it’s uncomfortable. Sometimes, it’s lonely. And often, it comes with a quiet kind of grief. Outgrowing people, places, and patterns is a normal part of healing, but that doesn’t make it ea

March invites us to celebrate both Women’s History Month and Social Work Month . While many pioneers of social work are widely recognized, women of color are often excluded from mainstream narratives and textbooks, despite their foundational contributions to advocacy, public health, community organizing, and social reform. At Lighthouse Therapy & Consulting, we believe it is important to intentionally name and honor the women whose work built systems of care in the face of r

When we think about Valentine’s Day, our minds often jump straight to romantic love. Flowers, date nights, and grand gestures often take center stage. But at its core, Valentine’s Day is about something far more essential: human connection . Healthy relationships, romantic and platonic, are not a luxury. They are a psychological necessity. They shape how we see ourselves, how safe we feel in the world, and how we show up for others. This Valentine’s Day, it is worth expanding

Every January, we walk into the new year full of hope, motivation, and a long list of resolutions. And by February, many of those goals feel heavy, overwhelming, or quietly forgotten. If this sounds familiar, you’re not failing, you’re human. The problem usually isn’t motivation, it’s that the goal was simply too big to hold all at once. In the therapy world, when we help clients set goals, we don’t start with massive life overhauls. We use something called SMART goals. SMART
